In Japan, a unique dating app called Loverse is offering AI companionship as an alternative to traditional relationships, which are becoming less common. This app, launched a year ago, allows users to engage with AI partners, filling emotional voids for many who have grown uninterested with the complexities of real-life relationships.
In 2023, Japan's fertility rate fell to a historic low of 1.20 births per woman, far below the 2.1 required to maintain the population. Additionally, the number of deaths more than doubled the number of births, while marriages declined and divorces rose. These factors significantly affect the country's workforce, economy, welfare system, and social structure.
To counter declining birth rates, the government has expanded childcare facilities, offered housing subsidies, and paid couples to have children. Tokyo officials are testing a government-run dating app with a "values diagnostic test" and customizable partner traits, expected to launch later this year.
Meet Strawberry: OpenAI's Secret to Smarter, More Human AI 🍓
OpenAI is working on a new AI technology called "Strawberry," aiming to boost the reasoning skills of its models. This secretive project focuses on making AI capable of planning ahead and solving complex problems by autonomously navigating the internet for deep research. The goal is to achieve human-like or super-human intelligence, overcoming current limitations in logic and common sense. OpenAI is gearing up to unveil this advanced technology soon.
Bests and Busts
Here's a look at this week's AI highlights and lowlights:
⭐ Best: AI to Predict Alzheimer’s
A new AI tool predicts Alzheimer's disease progression with 82% accuracy using non-invasive cognitive tests and MRI scans. This advancement offers a more cost-effective and accessible method compared to current diagnostic tools, potentially improving early intervention.
Tech companies like Apple, Nvidia, and Salesforce have been secretly using subtitles from over 173,000 YouTube videos to train their AI models, often without the creators' knowledge or consent.
Apple has sourced data for their AI from several companies
One of them scraped tons of data/transcripts from YouTube videos, including mine
Apple technically avoids "fault" here because they're not the ones scraping
But this is going to be an evolving problem for a long time
