🎁 AI Companies Float Handing Out Their Shares

Anthropic says it will put 5% of its shares into a public benefit fund as AI reshapes jobs. Within a day, Elon Musk jumped in with a giveaway of his own.

🏦 A Piggy Bank Worth $100B+

The stake could be worth $100 billion or more and grows as Anthropic does. Ideas include nonprofit donations or direct payouts to specific groups, though its not clear how it’ll be distributed just yet.

The good news (aside from the money) is Anthropic says they won’t allow any of the fund to go towards domestic or foreign political lobbying. The potentially bad news is, we don’t really know if this will happen.

⏭️ Musk Says Skip the Middleman

Musk replied that shares should go straight to the public, then pledged one SpaceX share to every US kid next year. That’s roughly 70 million children and over $10 billion, with no details yet on how.

📞 Scammers Cloned a Real Sheriff’s Captain

Fraudsters in Osceola County, Florida, cloned the voice of a real sheriff’s captain and used his official photo to fake arrest warrant calls. The office counts about 40 impersonation cases this year.

🎙️ Twenty Seconds Is Plenty

An expert showed that about 20 seconds of audio from online videos can clone a voice, and some tools need under five. Callers then claim you skipped jury duty or face a warrant.

📵 Hang Up and Call Back

Real deputies never call demanding money to clear a warrant. Hang up, find the agency’s number yourself, and never trust a callback number the caller gives you.

💼 Weekly Challenge: Is Your Job on the List?

❝

Challenge: Anthropic set up its fund because AI could shake up a lot of jobs. This week, use your favorite LLM to see how exposed your own job is, then make a plan to stay ahead of it.

Here's what to do:

📋 Step 1: Break down your week. Ask: “I’m a [job title] in [industry]. List the 10 tasks that take up most of my week and roughly how many hours each one takes.” Fix anything it gets wrong.

🧮 Step 2: Score the risk. Ask: “For each task, rate from 1 to 10 how well AI can already do it today, and explain why.” Note which tasks score high and how many hours they add up to.

🛠️ Step 3: Find your edge. Ask: “Which of my tasks are hardest for AI, and which skills would make me more valuable as AI takes over the rest?”

📅 Step 4: Make a 30-day plan. Ask for one small action per week, like automating a high-scoring task yourself or taking a free course in a skill AI struggles with. Put the four actions in your calendar now.

Should AI companies cut the public a check, or is it just good PR? And would you spot a cloned voice if it sounded like someone official? See you next time!
