🎨 The AI That Wiped 7% Off Figma's Stock Overnight
On April 17, Anthropic launched Claude Design, a tool for creating prototypes, pitch decks, and one-pagers through plain conversation. Powered by the new Claude Opus 4.7, it's available now for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Within hours, Figma and Adobe’s stock dropped.
🏗️ No Design Background Required
Describe what you need and Claude builds a first draft. You refine it through conversation, inline comments, or custom sliders. Exports go to Canva, PDF, or PPTX when you're done.

🔗 Hand Off Designs Straight to Claude Code
When a design is ready to build, Claude bundles everything for Claude Code with one click. Education startup Brilliant said their most complex pages needed just two prompts here versus twenty-plus in competing tools.
🕵️ The Timing Said Everything
Three days before launch, Anthropic's CPO resigned from Figma's board. Anthropic insists the tools are complementary, but industry leaders are urging teams to experiment rather than rely on it 100% for production work, at least for now.
Would you trust AI to design your next pitch deck?
✂️ Meta Is Cutting 8,000 Jobs and Blaming AI
Meta has confirmed May 20th as the start of its first major 2026 layoff wave. Sources told Reuters the cuts will hit around 8,000 employees, or 10% of the global workforce, with a second round planned later in the year.
💸 The AI Budget Is Eating Headcount
Zuckerberg is spending $115 to $135 billion on AI infrastructure in 2026, nearly double last year's figure. Cuts will hit Facebook's social division, recruiting, sales, and global operations.
However, if our math is correct, Meta also spent more than $90B on the Metaverse experiment. Which, if handled better, it could have potentially help to retain staff. Instead, AI is blamed for the layoffs when the real culprit is mismanagement, overspending and over hiring. But, what do you think?
Are these layoffs due to AI or something else?
📊 The Final Number Could Reach 20%
Earlier Reuters reporting put the total reduction at up to 20% of Meta's workforce across both waves. Meta called those figures speculative, but California WARN Act filings have already confirmed cuts at Burlingame and Sunnyvale starting late May.
Weekly Scoop 🍦
🎨 Weekly Challenge: Design Your First App in Claude Design
Challenge: No Figma skills needed. This week we're using Claude Design to go from a rough idea to a shareable interactive prototype in one conversation.
Here's what to do:
🖥️ Step 1: Open Claude Design Head to claude.ai/design and start a new project. You'll need a Claude Pro or Max subscription. If your workspace has a design system already set up, Claude will apply your brand colors and typography automatically.
💡 Step 2: Describe what you want to build Be specific about the goal, layout, and audience. Try something like: "Design a mobile app onboarding flow with three screens that walks a first-time user through setting up their profile." Claude builds a first version from there.
✏️ Step 3: Refine it through conversation Click any element and leave an inline comment, or just tell Claude what to change in the chat. Try: "Make the headline bigger and move the CTA button to the bottom of each screen." Claude applies changes across the full design.
📤 Step 4: Export or share When you're happy with it, export to Canva for further editing, download as a PPTX or PDF, or grab the shareable URL and send it to a friend for feedback. Drop your link or a screenshot in the comments.
Will Claude Design eventually replace freelance designers? And is betting your job security on AI progress a risk worth taking? See you next time! 🚀
