Meta Rushes to Delete AI-Generated Accounts 💨 

Meta’s latest AI didn’t unfold as planned. The company had to scramble to delete several AI-generated accounts after users flagged concerning issues.

Recently, Meta’s VP of gen AI hinted at a future where AI accounts could exist alongside human users, complete with bios, profile pictures, and the ability to post. But when Meta quietly rolled out a few test accounts, the response was far from positive.

Liv’s bio described her as a “Proud Black queer momma of 2 & truth-teller.” But when asked about the bot’s creators, Liv responded that she was made by “10 white men, 1 white woman, and 1 Asian male.” That disconnect struck a nerve. Even though Liv’s posts (like beach photos and holiday cookies) had watermarks signaling they were AI-generated, people weren’t thrilled about the lack of transparency in how these accounts were crafted.

After the backlash grew and media outlets started digging, Meta quietly removed Liv and other AI bots, calling it a “bug” that prevented users from blocking them. A spokesperson clarified that this was part of an early experiment—not a new feature rollout—but by then, the damage was done.
