OpenAI's o3-mini Derails DeepSeek’s Hype Train
Welcome to this week's edition of Jumble, your go-to source for the latest in AI. This issue explores OpenAI’s new o3-mini models and Deep Research feature. It’s a packed week in AI and here’s what you need to know ⬇️
In today’s newsletter:
🚀 o3-mini is low cost and powerful
🍎 Apple’s new iPhone SE4
🔍 OpenAI’s new research feature
🤯 Mass-production of humanoid robots
🧠 AI tools for personal development
Here’s Why o3-mini Is a BIG Deal 🚀
OpenAI has officially launched o3-mini in low, medium, and high flavors. It’s a class of lightweight AI models designed for efficiency without sacrificing power. These models are optimized for lower costs while still maintaining solid reasoning capabilities, making them perfect for everyday AI tasks requiring reasoning and accuracy.

o3-mini Compared to GPT-4o
These are two entirely different models. The o1 & o3 models are more for tasks that require exceptional reasoning (i.e., math, coding, etc.). On the other hand, ChatGPT-4o is better suited for language focused tasks like writing, summarizing, ideation, and more.
Compared to GPT-4o, o3-mini has:
🏎️ Faster response times
💰Lower computational costs
🧠 Surprisingly strong performance in reasoning and general knowledge
How much does it cost? 💸
Free users: You can try it using “Reason” mode in ChatGPT
Plus/Team users: Daily message limit tripled to 150/day!
o3-mini Vs Other Reasoning Models
Other than the o1 model, the other two models currently capable of reasoning tasks are DeepSeek-R1 and Gemini 2.0 Flash:
Against DeepSeek-R1: o3-mini-High scores higher in coding but slightly lower in reasoning. DeepSeek-R1 outperforms in mathematics and data analysis, making it a strong alternative for structured problem-solving.
Against Gemini 2.0 Flash: o3-mini-High significantly outperforms Gemini in reasoning and coding, suggesting it is the better model for technical tasks. However, Gemini has competitive performance in mathematics and data analysis, making it more balanced in research-oriented workflows.
Overall: While not as powerful as OpenAI’s o1 model, o3-mini-High is one of the best compact AI models available, excelling in coding and general reasoning while offering a balance between affordability and performance.

And… Another OpenAI Launch 📢
Deep Research Mode: Next-Level AI Research
Tired of shallow AI-generated search results? OpenAI’s Deep Research promises to fix that. This new feature enhances search queries with deeper contextual understanding, allowing AI to find more relevant, nuanced, and credible sources instead of generic, surface-level answers.
Today we are launching our next agent capable of doing work for you independently—deep research.
Give it a prompt and ChatGPT will find, analyze & synthesize hundreds of online sources to create a comprehensive report in tens of minutes vs what would take a human many hours.

Deep Research is expected to revolutionize research, helping professionals in law, medicine, and business uncover critical insights faster than traditional search engines. Currently, this feature is only available on OpenAI’s Pro plan, but should be available to all users soon!
