OpenAI introduced Sora 2, a flagship video and audio model focused on physical accuracy, realism, and control. It now generates synchronized dialogue and sound effects, maintains scene state across shots, and models failure realistically, like a missed basketball rebounding instead of teleporting. 

A new social iOS Sora app lets you create short clips, remix others, and insert yourself via verified “cameos.” Initial rollout starts in the U.S. and Canada with invites; access expands soon, and an API is planned. Sora 2 is initially free with generous limits, while a higher-quality Sora 2 Pro tier will be available to ChatGPT Pro users on the web. 

Sora 2’s headline upgrades include synchronized audio, sharper realism across styles, and higher steer-ability for multi-shot prompts. It can place a recorded likeness into generated scenes with strong fidelity and user controls for consent and removal. The app is designed to bias toward creation over feed time, with parental controls and wellbeing nudges built in.

Coverage highlights Sora 2’s “cameos” and the invite-only social app, positioning it as a TikTok-style playground for AI video. Competing tools from Google and Runway have pushed quality, but Sora 2’s physics and self-insertion plus synchronized audio set a new bar in realism and control. Early reports say an API is coming, which would widen production use.

Sora 2 isn’t perfect; OpenAI published a system card detailing safety constraints, provenance, and likeness controls. Public figure use requires explicit consent, and the app launches invite-only on iOS first, with wider regions and access later. For professionals, the big watch items are license clarity for commercial use, watermarking, and when the API and longer durations arrive.

Perplexity’s Comet browser (formerly a $200/month perk) just went free for everyone. The AI assistant is built into the browsing experience and can help with research, shopping, trip planning, and inbox tasks. 

Perplexity also introduced Comet Plus, a $5 add-on (included with Pro and Max) that surfaces curated news from major publishers with shared revenue to rights holders. Rate limits apply on the free tier, but the goal is to make AI-enhanced browsing mainstream.

Use Comet to summarize dense articles with citations, compare product specs across retailer pages, auto-organize tab chaos, and plan multi-stop travel with source-linked itineraries. The product page spotlights task flows like grouping tabs, drafting emails from your calendar, and guided shopping; the assistant rides along rather than acting as a bolt-on.

Comet competes with AI-augmented Chrome and others, but its assistant-first posture plus publisher partnerships aim to counter “AI slop” by prioritizing high-quality sources. If it stays free indefinitely as stated, it could nudge everyday users to treat the browser like a research copilot instead of a passive window.

The free global release positions Comet as a challenger to Chrome with an assistant first model that bundles summaries, tab grouping, and guided shopping.
