Robert Downey Jr. has made headlines with his strong stance against the use of AI to recreate his likeness without permission. The Oscar-winning actor, known for his iconic role as Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), stated that he would instruct his lawyers to sue future executives who attempt to create digital replicas of him using AI technology.

AI and Hollywood
During an appearance on the "On With Kara Swisher" podcast, Downey Jr. expressed his intention to take legal action "on spec" against any future attempts to recreate his image using AI. When the host suggested he might not be alive to pursue such lawsuits, the actor quipped that his law firm would remain "very active.”

Despite his investments in AI-related ventures, Downey Jr. emphasized the importance of considering the people involved in AI projects rather than focusing solely on technology or financial gain.

Marvel Return and Trust
Interestingly, Downey Jr. expressed confidence in Marvel Studios' integrity regarding the use of his likeness. He stated that he was not worried about the MCU "hijacking" his character's soul, citing his trust in the decision-makers at the studio.

The actor's comments come alongside the announcement of his return to the MCU, this time in the role of Doctor Doom, one of Marvel's most formidable villains. Downey Jr. is set to appear in the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday," with a reported salary of around $100 million for two films.

As the debate over AI's role in entertainment continues, Downey Jr.'s stance highlights the growing concerns among actors about the potential misuse of their likenesses in an increasingly digital Hollywood landscape.

📧 Gmail Will Now Help You Write an Email with AI
Google is expanding its AI-powered "Help me write" feature to Gmail on the web, allowing users to generate or refine email drafts using Gemini AI. Available to Google One AI Premium subscribers and Workspace users with the Gemini add-on, this feature offers options to formalize, elaborate, or shorten messages. 🎵 Universal Music Partners with AI Company
Universal Music Group (UMG) has announced a partnership with Klay Vision, an AI company developing an "ethical" foundational model for AI music generation called KLayMM. The collaboration aims to create AI-driven music experiences that respect copyright and artists' rights. Klay Vision, led by former Sony Music executive Thomas Hesse and ex-Google DeepMind researcher Björn Winckler, plans to launch its product within months. The companies emphasize that their AI model will work collaboratively with the music industry and creators, promising not to compete with artists' catalogs in traditional music services.

🛡️ Defense Department Tests AI Software
The U.S. Department of Defense is enhancing its physical security measures by testing an AI-powered system, Scylla, at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Kentucky. Demonstrating a high success rate, Scylla integrates seamlessly with existing surveillance setups and drones, boasting real-time threat detection with 96% accuracy, and a significant reduction in false alarms. This technology improves the detection of intruders, weapons, and unusual behavior, and is part of a broader DOD initiative to adopt AI in safeguarding critical assets.

✏️ AI Tutors Are Already Changing Higher Ed
AI tutors are transforming higher education by providing students with personalized learning experiences and increased access to expertise. Computer science professors have successfully integrated AI tutors into their classrooms, with some students learning more than twice as much in less time compared to traditional instruction. While concerns about cheating persist in humanities departments, AI tutors are showing promise in making education more equitable and efficient, particularly in STEM fields.

🤖 AI Digital Agents Could Soon Use Your Browser
Google is reportedly developing "Project Jarvis," an AI system capable of controlling web browsers to perform online tasks, signaling a major shift in how AI could transform eCommerce. This initiative, potentially launching in December alongside Google's new Gemini language models, aims to automate complex processes from vacation planning to online shopping. The technology works by interpreting screenshots and executing actions like clicking buttons or filling forms, though current processing times indicate it's still in development.
